Moped licence

Imagine yourself riding along the Dutch roads on your own moped! With the moped theory and riding lessons recommended by DriveRight, this could be a reality soon. To make sure that you know all the steps you have to take to obtain this licence, we have made this five-step program for you. On this page, you can also read about the conditions for taking the driving test.

For the theory, we suggest that you study the complete online riding theory training and testing tool TrafficTrainer for the moped, which has been designed specifically for the moped riding theory test.

Please note that there are no English learning books for the moped riding theory tests, nor are there any English CDs/DVDs for this test; all this learning and practising should be done online through TrafficTrainer.

The moped licence tests

To obtain a moped driving licence (category AM) in The Netherlands, you must take a CBR Moped Theory Test and an on-road CBR Riding Test. You can reserve a slot for the CBR Theory Test from 15 years of age onwards, but you can only take this test when you are 15,5. You must have passed this test before taking the moped riding course or the CBR moped riding test; you can apply for the CBR moped riding test when you are 15, but only take this test when you are 16!

These tests are the same for the light-moped (blue number plate) and the moped (yellow number plate) with either an automatic or manual transmission powered by a petrol or an electric engine.

Theory online and books

For the theory, we suggest that you study specifically the moped theory program in English through TrafficTrainer; this program covers the complete theory and the practical questions for the moped theory test. You could supplement this with option 2, the English Traffic Manual + 535 Practice Test Questions, for the category B test.
