Motorcycle licence
To obtain a motorcycle driving licence (category A) in The Netherlands, you will have to take a CBR Theory and a Practical exam. For the theory, we suggest that you study the complete online riding theory training and testing tool TrafficTrainer for the motorcycle, which has been designed specifically for the motorcycle riding theory test!
Please note that there are no English learning books for the motorcycle riding theory tests, nor are there any English CDs/DVDs for this test; all this learning and practising should be done online through TrafficTrainer.
Motorcycle entitlements by age
When between 18 and 20 years of age you can only take the test on a light motorcycle (max. 125 cc, max. power output 11 kW, less than 0,1 kW per kg), a fully electric motorcycle (max. power output 11 kW, less than 0,1 kW per kg) or motorised tricycles (max. power output 15 kW) for the A1 licence.
When between 20 and 24 years of age you can take the test on a medium-power motorcycle (max. power output of 35 kW, less than 0,2 kW per kg) and not developed from a vehicle with more than double this power for the A2 licence.
A full A motorcycle entitlement, for motorcycles with an unlimited power output of more than 50 kW and motorised tricycles, can be obtained through direct access when 24 or older, or through progressive access when 22 years of age and having held the A2 licence for 2 years, meaning that after having held that A2 entitlement for at least two years you can take the A-additional test on a motorcycle with a minimum power output of 50 kW (1 kW equals 1,359 hp).

Note that all category A driving licence entitlements also entitle you to ride a snorfiets (Dutch for a light moped), a bromfiets (Dutch for a moped) and a brommobiel (Dutch for a mobility car).
